The Chinese New Year has a great history。 In our past, people lived in an agricultural society and worked all year long。 They only took a break after the harvest and before the planting of seeds。 This happens to coincide with the beginning of the lunar New Year。

The Chinese New Year is very similar to the Western one, rich in traditions, folklores and rituals。 It has been said that it is a combination of the Western Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year。 This is hardly an exaggeration!

The origin of the Chinese New Year itself is centuries old — in fact, too old to actually be traced。 It is popularly recognized as the Spring Festival and celebrations last 15 days。

Preparations tend to begin a month before the date of the Chinese New Year (similar to a Western Christmas)。 During this time people start buying presents, decoration materials, food and clothing。 A huge clean—up gets underway days before the New Year, when Chinese houses are cleaned from top to bottom。 This ritual is supposed to sweep away all traces of bad luck。 Doors and windowpanes are often given a new coat of paint, usually red, then decorated with paper cuts and couplets with themes such as happiness, wealth and longevity printed on them。

The end of the New Year is marked by the Festival of Lanterns, which is a celebration with singing, dancing and lantern shows。

At the Festival, all traditions are honored。 The predominant colors are red and gold。 "Good Wish" banners are hung from the ceilings and walls。 The "God of Fortune" is there to give Hong Baos。 Lion dancers perform on stage continuously。 Visitors take home plants and flowers symbolizing good luck。 An array of New Years specialty food is available in the Food Market。 Visitors purchase new clothing, shoes and pottery at the Market Fair。 Bargaining for the best deal is commonplace!

The oldest and most important festival in China is the Chinese New Year, the Spring Festival is an event comparable to Christmas in the , which marks the first day of the lunar calendar and usually falls somewhere between late January and early February of the Gregorian calendar。

Like all Chinese traditional festivals, the date of the New Year is determined by the Chinese lunar calendar, which is divided into 12 months, each with about 29。5 days。 One year has 24 solar terms in accordance with the changes of nature, stipulating the proper time for planting and harvesting。 The first day of the first solar term is the Beginning of Spring, which cannot always fall on the first day of the year as in the ern Gregorian Calendar。 The Spring Festival falls usually around the Beginning of Spring, heralding the beginning of spring; thus it is also known as the "Spring Festival"。

Besides celebrating the earth coming back to life and the start of ploughing and sowing, this traditional festival is also a festival of reunions。 No matter how far people are from their homes they will try their best to come back home for the reunion dinner。

Although the climax of the Spring Festival usually lasts three to five days, including New Years Eve, the New Year season extends from the mid—12th month of the previous year to the middle of the first month of the lunar new year。 The Lantern Festival marks the end of the New Year season and life becomes routine all。

Dear Judges and Friends:

The topic for my speech today is “Festival.” I would like to talk about my favorite festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival.

In China we have several important festivals, such as the Spring Festival, the Lantern Festival, the Dragon-boat Festival and the Mid-Autumn Festival. Among them, I like Mid-Autumn festival best, especially because I live in Xiamen.

In Xiamen, when we celebrate the Mid-Autumn festival, we do not only follow the common practices such as having a big dinner party with our family, eating mooncakes, and appreciating the full moon at night, we also have one unique custom which is only practiced in Xiamen, that is “Bo Bing”.

“Bo Bing” is a very interesting game that almost all Xiamen people play during this festival. Usually family members or close friends get together around a table with a big round bowl in the middle and six dices in the bowl. We take turns to throw the dices into the bowl. We will get different prizes accroding to the different ways the dices show their upper sides. Everyone is likely to become the champion or “Zhuangyuan” for the year. There is an element of luck and equal opportunity in this game. So people usually get excited while playing. Also, the game gives very pleasant sounds. The tinkling made by the dices falling into the bowl is pleasant, people’s laughing, cheering and applauding for the big prizes they’ve won is pleasant. All this adds greatly to the joyful atmosphere of this festival. As a kid, of course I also like the material prizes I get from the game, such as a candy or a cake.

A new year ,a new start, when I stand on the edge of a new year,I cant help thinking about my plan of next year.

Just as the old saying:“Well began is the half of the success.”So I decide that I should be at work while the others are still relaxing ,and then ,at the beginning ,Im quicker than the others and of course I will get better result than the others.

But ,what I really decide to do is that I must make good of anytime I can spare though it seems impossible. While,I will do my best to live up with what I have planned, and the result will prove it.

Oh, or the brief said, the Chinese New Year Bar.

Chinese New Year this year, back to her husband's home. Days at home, I get everything handed to a blessing. Hidaka thirty feet a day sleep, get up early after the in-laws are ready to enjoy a little something to do after, we sat watching TV, and her daughter play. Simply could not have been easy. To do that, appreciate the so-called "pig Lang life." For I love the idea of her in-laws gave me a taste. Husband's father is a person who does not love movement, ordinary day sit mostly in front of the TV, but we came back the past few days, they often are fighting over who gets to do my favorite meals. Mother said to me, your father is not an easy way for others, he is really most special to you, think you do that would be on the child,

Every day he gives you the idea of doing what you love to eat, so that the treatment with A Qin (Aqin for my sisters-in-a) had not enjoyed.

In fact, do not mother say, I have been feeling. Mother talking all the time, I quietly moved to tears. What is her in-laws? I practice Buddhism is how past lives have the welfare of today.

A simple Chinese New Year in 2010 had passed, but I seem to have not grown up. Perhaps the bottom of my heart private parts, I will never grow up.
